Mount Kenya
Africa’s second-highest mountain, and the highlands, forest and trout streams around it.
Why people go
Mount Kenya is a glaciated, extinct volcano sitting almost exactly on the equator, and the mountain itself offers everything from a lodge-based look at Point Lenana’s approaches to a full technical ascent of Batian.
Most of our clients do not climb it. They stay on the lower slopes — the forest belt and the highland farms — for cold clean air, trout fishing, and a night or two at 2,000 m+ with a fire and no light pollution.
It is the natural partner to Samburu: cool to hot, highland to semi-arid, two entirely different Kenyas in one itinerary.
What you will actually do
- Point Lenana trek (4,985 m) without technical climbing
- Highland lodges, forest walks and trout fishing
- Equatorial glaciers on a mountain with no technical approach
- Pairs with Samburu or the Aberdares on the northern circuit
